Companionship and visits for the ill 01

Companionship and Visits for the Ill

Being present when it matters most

This is the heart of our organization. Volunteers visit people who are ill in hospitals, homes, rehabilitation centers, and other places where our presence can provide companionship and hope.

During our visits, we may provide companionship and a listening ear, emotional support, words of encouragement, telephone follow-up when possible, support for families, and human connection during times of illness, isolation, or vulnerability.

Many of the people who are part of ¡AVE! also live with disabilities. This gives us a very personal understanding of how important it is to know that someone is standing beside you.

A visit may seem like something small, but to someone who feels alone, it can mean everything.
Medical supplies and equipment 02

Medical Supplies & Equipment

Help at no cost when resources are available

Thanks to donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners, ¡AVE! receives medical equipment and supplies that we then distribute free of charge to people in need, depending on availability.

  • Manual and power wheelchairs
  • Electric medical beds
  • Walkers, canes, and white canes
  • Adult diapers, catheters, and drainage bags
  • Hygiene products and other medical supplies

All medical equipment and supplies donated to ¡AVE! are provided to members of the community at no cost when available.

Wheelchair repair and maintenance 03

Wheelchair Repair & Maintenance

Supporting mobility and independence

For a person with a disability, a wheelchair is much more than a piece of equipment. It represents mobility, independence, and the ability to participate in everyday life.

When our resources allow, we may assist with minor repairs, adjustments, component inspections, replacement or assistance with batteries for certain power wheelchairs, and guidance in locating additional resources when repairs are beyond our capacity.

Workshops and skill development 04

Workshops & Skill Development

Creating opportunities to learn and grow

¡AVE! promotes activities that help individuals with physical and visual disabilities develop new skills, discover their talents, and strengthen their independence.

Guitar classes: adapted music activities that encourage creativity, social interaction, personal development, and enjoyment.

Arts and crafts: handmade soap, costume jewelry, balloon art, creative projects, and other workshops. Whenever possible, ¡AVE! provides materials. When participants sell products they have created, the income belongs directly to them.

Community education and presentations 05

Community Education

Information that strengthens our community

During our meetings and activities, we invite professionals, organizations, and community representatives to share useful information on topics such as health, rights of people with disabilities, community resources, assistance programs, Golden Card, consular services, accessible transportation, prevention and wellness, and other local services.

Community meetings 06

Community Meetings

A place to connect, learn, and feel supported

Every month, we hold a community meeting where members, volunteers, families, and guests can come together, build relationships, and strengthen our community.

Meetings may include educational presentations, guest organizations, personal testimonies, community information, shared meals, birthday celebrations, recreational activities, and a welcome for new members.

Monthly birthday celebrations 07

Monthly Birthday Celebrations

Celebrating life

Everyone deserves to feel remembered, appreciated, and valued. During our community meetings, we celebrate the birthdays of members born that month.

Beyond the cake and photographs, these celebrations remind our members that they are part of a family that cares about them, appreciates them, and celebrates their lives.

Recreation and culture 08

Recreation & Culture

Opportunities to learn, connect, and enjoy life

Inclusion also means having access to recreational, educational, and cultural experiences. When our resources allow, we organize activities that give people with disabilities opportunities to visit museums, zoos, movie theaters, parks, cultural venues, and community events.

These experiences can help reduce isolation, strengthen friendships, provide opportunities to learn something new, and contribute to emotional well-being.
